Weeks had passed since Nico’s funeral, and for the first time in months, Jeez was at the house. Business wasn’t flowing like it was supposed to. Nobody really seemed to be recovering from this situation. I went to the kitchen to cook him some eggs, steak, and fresh strawberries. Jeez was Muslim so he didn’t eat any pork. When I came back up to our room, he was just hanging up the phone.

“What’s wrong?” I asked as I walked through the door.

“These niggas can’t do shit right. Kevin done got shot in a shootout with Areshawn and dem. He got shot in the leg,” he started to explain.

I just stared at him. I knew this wouldn’t end well. “So, besides getting shot in the leg, everybody is okay, right?” I asked, trying to see if I really had to worry.

“Yeah, dem niggas is cool. We supposed to be meeting down at the trap in a hour,” he said, reaching for his plate. “Thanks, bae. I need something on my stomach. I haven’t really been eatin’.”

I already knew that.
